How to Make  Crispy Air Fryer  & Oven-Baked Tofu

Gluten-Free, Oil-Free Option

Ingredients for crispiest air fryer or oven-baked tofu.  Substitute cornstarch with arrowroot 1:1 ratio as needed.

Use super firm or extra firm tofu. Super firm tofu (Nasoya,Wildwood)  Pre-pressed. Requires no pressing.  Higher in protein. Extra firm tofu  Requires pressing for about 25 minutes before using.

Tofu: Toss the tofu cubes with tamari or soy sauce, and chili  oil sauce.  For oil-free, substitute chili oil sauce with 1/2 tsp ground cayenne.

Season Tofu with remaining seasonings. Add 1/2 tsp ground cayenne for oil-free. Toss again until coated with seasonings.

For air fryer tofu: Place cubes in air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook at 400ºF for 5 minutes. Shake basket to move cubes around so they cook evenly. Cook for 5 minutes more, or until desired crispiness.

For oven-baked tofu: Place tofu on nonstick roasting pan with rack, or baking sheet, in a single layer.  Bake for at 425ºF for 10 minutes. Toss cubes halfway. Bake for 10 minutes more, or until golden brown.  For extra crispiness, change oven setting to broil. Cook for 2 minutes more, or until crispy.

Top Tip: Purchase a nonstick roaster with rack, and bake the tofu on the rack to mimic an air fryer! Hot air passes under the cubes so they brown and do not steam, just like an air fryer.

Storage: Refrigerate in airtight container up to 4 days. Reheat in air fryer, oven, or toaster oven at 375ºF until warmed through. Toss with touch of oil beforehand for crispier tofu. To freeze: Store in freezer safe containers. Freeze up to 3 months. Thaw in refrigerator.
